Questions we get asked
Straight answers, including the ones where the honest answer costs us the sale.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
Scheduled weekday visits carry a $69 diagnostic fee, and it comes off the bill if you go ahead with the repair on the same visit. Emergency call-outs are a flat $189, quoted on the phone before we dispatch, and standard job pricing applies on top of it.
How quickly can you get here?
Inside Sacramento, an emergency call is usually on site within ninety minutes; Elk Grove, Folsom, and Roseville run closer to two hours at peak times. Scheduled work is booked in two-hour windows, and we call when the plumber is on the way.
Do you work weekends and nights?
Yes, and at the same rates as a weekday. There is no overtime multiplier on our pricing — the flat emergency call-out fee is the only difference.
Will you give me a price before you start?
Always. We quote the job rather than the hour, the number is fixed before any work begins, and if the job turns out to be bigger than it looked we stop and re-quote rather than run the bill up.
My drain keeps clogging. Is cabling it again a waste of money?
Often, yes. A line that clogs more than about twice a year usually has a cause — roots, a belly in the pipe, or scale — and clearing it repeatedly only buys months. We camera-inspect after every clearing so you find out which one you have before spending again.
Should I repair my water heater or replace it?
Under eight years old with a failed thermocouple, element, or valve: repair, almost always. Over twelve years old, or leaking from the tank itself: replace, because the tank is the part that cannot be fixed. Between the two it depends on the fault, and we tell you which side of the line you are on before quoting.
Is tankless worth it?
Sometimes. It earns its cost in a household that runs out of hot water regularly or wants the floor space back. For a two-person home with a working tank, the payback period is longer than most people expect, and we will say so rather than sell you one.
How do I know if I have a slab leak?
The usual signs are a water bill that jumped without a change in habits, a warm patch on the floor, the sound of running water with everything off, or unexplained damp in the carpet. We locate it acoustically and thermally before anything gets opened up, so you are not paying to break concrete on a guess.
Do I need a permit?
Water heater replacements and repipes need one in most of the county; drain clearing, fixture swaps, and leak repairs generally do not. We pull the permit where it is required and bill it at cost with the receipt attached to your invoice.
What is the first thing to do in a plumbing emergency?
Shut off the water. The main shutoff is usually where the supply enters the house or at the street meter; individual toilets and sinks have their own stop valves. Then call us. If water is anywhere near electrical wiring or a panel, kill the power at the breaker first.
Do you guarantee your work?
Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty. Our labour is guaranteed for one year on repairs and ten years on whole-house repipes. If something we did fails inside that window, we come back and put it right at no charge.
How do I pay?
Card, cheque, or bank transfer, invoiced on completion. Larger jobs like repipes are split into a deposit and a balance due when the work passes inspection. We never ask for payment up front on a service call.
